I Was a Nordstrom Stylist and Now Focus on Closet Makeovers—These Are My Staples

We first introduced you to Stacey Jones last year with this feature showcasing the Nordstrom6—a group of current or former Nordstrom stylists who share shopping and fashion advice. Jones worked at Nordstrom for a decade and now focuses on her website and, as she calls it, closet makeovers. Essentially, she helps clients create fresh outfits based on what’s in their wardrobe and also books private shopping appointments if they do wish to shop for new items. Given her expertise in helping to create a standout closet based on personal style, we thought there could be interest in learning more from Jones about what she deems spring and summer wardrobe staples.

Below, Jones shares the seven items she considers to be her absolute go-tos because they’re inherently chic and highly versatile. These are also pieces she often recommends to her clients when they enlist her help.

Keep scrolling for the full list, complete with a range of shopping inspiration if something specific catches your eye.

"When winter turns to spring, it's time to push the black blazers a little closer to the back of the closet. Let's pull out lightweight colorful (or patterned) blazers. These will add pizzazz to your otherwise basic outfit and serve as a light coat."

"A chambray shirt is imperative. You know how blue jeans just match everything? It’s the same with a chambray button-down. Mix it with any print, color, or fabric. Make a style statement by wearing it with your dressiest pieces. Roll up the sleeves and pair it with shorts. Or leave it unbuttoned, and wear it like a jacket."

"Even my clients who swear they don't like dresses will wear a shirtdress. It's one-and-done styling at its simplest. Belt it… or don’t. Wear it with a high heel, a block sandal, a slide, or a sneaker. Accessorize it if you like, or wear it alone in a minimalist fashion."

"Printed pants are quite chic. This can be a glen plaid, a gingham, a floral, or a dot."

"I persuade every woman to invest in a beautiful silk blouse. We all need one of those pieces we can count on to make us feel elegant, elevated, and put together."

"I'm always on the hunt for a great pair of chinos or trousers. They can be a classic tailored cut or a relaxed style. Chinos are typically cotton and just as comfortable as (if not more so than) denim. They can be worn with a blouse and heels or rolled up with sneakers and a tee."

"I say have at least one style of shoe in a metallic-like silver, bronze, gold, or rose gold. Metals go with everything. If you're mixing prints or color-blocking, metallics work."
