6 Anti-Trend Pieces I Guarantee Everyone Will Wear For Fall

With a trend cycle that has accelerated to hyperspeed, the latest in fashion can feel hard to keep up with. Almost overnight, Barbiecore, Gorpcore, and Cottagecore reached viral status and defined fashion at that moment. However, these micro-trend movements can often be fleeting and fade away just as quickly as they arrived.

Perhaps that is why we are seeing a major rise in anti-trends—pieces that feel cool and stylish, but have a timeless, trendless quality about them that puts them outside of the rapid trend cycle. These are pieces that will remain in style this week, this month, this season, and for many years ahead. We saw evidence of this in the F/W 22 collections where basics as simple as white tank tops gained attention for their ubiquity on the runways, and have already been marked as one of the key buys for fall. Here, 6 anti-trend pieces I already know will be big this season—and will remain core stapes for years ahead as well.

Prada really knows how to make an impact on the runways and did just that in the F/W 22 collection where 13 of 54 looks featured logo-adorned tank tops, including the opening and closing looks. If that isn't a ringing endorsement for the significance of the humble tank top, I'm not sure what is.
Denim has been getting more and more relaxed over the last several seasons, with brands including Khaite showcasing super-slouchy silhouettes on the fall runways. If you're looking for a cool way to update your denim, rest assured that roomy styles are here to stay.
I'm sure that all Phoebe Philo fans are excited right now because the slip dresses the designer put on the map at Celine are back and cooler than ever. The styling options are endless, whether you opt for a lace-adorned style or a simple satin midi dress.
Speaking of slip dresses, one of the ways designers have pushed them forward is the way that they're being styled. Notably, sweaters were tied over long satin slips at Bottega Veneta—a styling hack that will breathe new life into simple sweaters for fall.
Sleek knee-high boots will never go out of style—they're a piece you can always keep in rotation season after season, wearing them new ways as styling evolves. If you're looking for updated ways to style them, opt for micro hemlines such as a short skirt or sweater dress to keep them feeling fresh.
Button-downs have been everywhere in the last several years and designers continue to push them forward. While I would normally think to pair a button-down with a basic pair of jeans, I'm rethinking how I'll be wearing mine after seeing inventive styling in the F/W 22 collection. For example, Commission showcased a look with a sequined skirt, oversize blazer, and western boots to keep the top feeling directional.
