6 Buzzy Hotels on My Travel List and Exactly What I'd Pack For Each

Next to fashion, travel is my big passion. I like to joke that because I’m a Sagittarius, a sense of wanderlust is in my blood, but whether or not that’s accurate I can’t deny that I’m always aiming to plan a trip somewhere new—and usually far-flung.

Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to fly to Mezzatorre in Ischia, a hotel housed in an 16th century watchtower on an island off the coast of Naples. Then, there was the Rosewood in London to celebrate my brother-in-law’s birthday, with days spent ducking into pubs for Sunday roasts and cheering in the grandstands at rugby matches. I also have a love affair with Paris, a city where I once lived and visit any chance I get, and still treat vintage shopping like a competitive sport any time I’m there. And sometimes, it’s about discovering new destinations that are just a few hours (or just minutes) away from my home in Los Angeles.

That being said, my travel plans have largely been put on hold throughout the pandemic, like so many people, but I’m starting to think again about where I want to visit now. Ahead, see the buzzy hotels on my personal travel list and exactly what I would pack for each destination.

The Aman just opened in New York and is easily one of the buzziest new hotels of 2022. Known for their refined take on minimalism, Aman hotels always blend the setting of the locale with a sense of quiet elegance. I already know this will be one of the most in-demand places to visit in NYC. Of all of the new openings, this is the place I want to spend a night at first.

On my packing list: In New York, I like to pack elevated basics that I can mix and match for a number of outfits—and items that will sustain lots of walking. A designer tank top, tailored trousers, and a cool belt are what would go into my suitcase first.

If Il Pellicano looks familiar, it's probably because photographer Slim Aarons was a frequent visitor and captured it during his visits. While Aarons focused his lens on the hotel during the '60s, it's still just as iconic today for travelers looking to head to Italy for a dip in the Mediterranean.

On my packing list: A vacation fueled by days spent lounging in chairs by the water and evenings occupied by long dinners, my suitcase would be brimming with swimsuits and easy dresses that could transition from day to night.

One of my friends visited Thyme in the Cotswolds last year and ever since I can't get it out of my mind. The quaint city where The Holiday was filmed, it's about as close as you can get to stepping onto the set of a Nancy Meyers film, which makes it all the more appealing. If you're looking for somewhere to go this fall or winter, this is what I would add to the top of your travel list.

On my packing list: Outside of my typical packing list, a trip to the Cotswolds requires lots of layering and pieces that can stand up to the elements and inevitable muddiness in the area. Cashmere knits, chinos, and practical rubber boots are the required pieces to add to the top of your packing list.

I visited Venice once and was pleasantly surprised by how much I loved the city. Steeped in history, with a rich culture of art and film, incredibly walkable (if you don't mind getting a big lost), and very photogenic, it's a place I always recommend to anyone looking for a romantic escape for a few days. During my visit, I wasn't able to stay at the Aman, but it's now at the top of my list. As someone who loves the juxtaposition of historic interiors paired with modern furnishings, the 16th-century palazzo filled with pared-back decor is just what I want to surround myself with next time I'm in Venice.

On my packing list: With lots of walking and many museum trips on the agenda, the packing list follows suit with comfortable, yet cool shoes and everyday outfits that feel elevated yet comfortable—plus pieces to dress up in for evening cocktails.

I've never been to the French Riviera but have always wanted to visit—and Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc has always sat on the top of my list. Between trips to the beach and tennis sessions, I already know it would be a place I would want to visit many times.

On my packing list: Crisp white pieces, tennis dresses, and sleek sandals would be high on my list—pieces that are chic, easy, and neutral.

While I used to live in Paris, I've always dreamed of staying at the Hotel Ritz and can't imagine a more incredible way of experiencing the city. Between the pristine rooms and cocktails at Bar Hemingway—plus plenty of time dipping out to vintage fashion shops and buzzy restaurants—I plan to see Paris one day this way.

On my packing list: No matter where I'm staying in Paris, my packing list always remains the same. It doesn't get easier than a great tweed jacket, jeans, and ballet flats.
