Olivia Newton-John's 9 Most Iconic Outfits From "Grease"

From her "Bad Sandy" all-black look at the carnival to her uniform of poodle skirts and polos, "Grease" star Olivia Newton-John established Sandy Olsson as a '50s style icon. As the world pays respect to Newton-John following the news of her death, it's time to look back at her "Grease" wardrobe, curated by costume designer Albert Wolskyn ("Bird Man" and "Across the Universe").

Wolsky slowly transitioned Sandy from a palette of pastels to major Pink Lady attitude. In Newton-John's memoir, "Don't Stop Believin'," she mentions the most iconic fashion moment of them all: her all-black look with red accents for the movie's final scene. The signature pants were a vintage item that fit so snug, she had to be sewn into them before shooting every single day over the course of a week. "They were so old, and there was just one pair, so there was no room for error. One rip and disaster," she wrote. "When I tried on those pants for the first time, the zipper was broken and Albert didn't want to rip them trying to put in a new one or remove the old one."

At 71, Newton-John put 500 cherished pieces up for sale in an auction to raise money for her cancer wellness and research center, and the black pants and leather jacket Sandy wore at the carnival reportedly sold to a bidder for $405,700.

In memory of her indelible imprint on fashion, scroll down for more of Sandy's best looks from the movie.
