Elizabeth Debicki, who replaces Emma Corrin as Princess Diana in Netflix's "The Crown" season five, wears a re-creation of one of Diana's most iconic looks in the series: the "revenge" dress. The original LBD, designed by Christina Stambolian, was worn for a Vanity Fair party in June 1994, the same night Prince Charles confessed to being unfaithful during his marriage in a tell-all documentary.
Diana paired the formfitting, off-the-shoulder dress with a stunning multilayered pearl choker decorated with a sapphire stone and diamonds, a coordinating sapphire bracelet, pearl drop earrings, and her iconic engagement ring currently owned by Kate Middleton, all of which "The Crown"'s costume team replicated to reimagine the late royal's jewelry suite.
Naturally, as soon as the images of Debicki sporting the "revenge" dress began circulating across the internet (beginning in November 2021, when the cast and crew were spotted on set), fans began itching for the new season. Now, all 10 episodes are available to stream, focusing on the '90s up until Diana's tragic death in 1997. Rest assured, there will be even more examples of meticulously copied dresses for us to enjoy as we watch, all brought to life by costume designer Amy Roberts.
Ahead, see a comparison of Princess Diana's actual look and "The Crown"'s replica on Debicki, then shop a few similar silhouettes for your own wardrobe if you're inspired, and learn how hair and makeup director Cate Hall created a believable beauty look to mirror Diana's in her late 20s and early 30s.
