Shop Talk is a biweekly column dedicated to exploring the latest styles and trends to hit the internet. We'll sift through new arrivals to bring you the styles we’re loving, the trends gaining momentum, and the pieces you’ll want to see before they sell out.
I'll be paying off my summer travel bills well into fall, so I've set every online retailer's filter to show me products that cost $170 or less. Instead of risking falling in love with another $350 piece, I'm eyeing a denim bomber jacket, lace-trimmed shorts, and ballet flats that fall way under that price point. The goal was to find pieces that scratch the itch for a new fall thing or two without blowing my entire budget. They feel cool and current without leaning too trendy, and come fall, they can be layered alongside warmer pieces. To see my favorite arrivals in the $170-and-under category, keep reading.
$170-and-Under Apparel

I may have already broken my rule of $170 and under, but this was too cute to scroll by.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm gravitating toward slimmer jeans.

Peplum tops are emerging, and this is the closest I'll come to wearing one.

If slim jeans aren't your thing, this new balloon style is intriguing to me.

I recently pulled a similar jean jacket out of my closet, and I think it's a perfect layering piece.

I have a problem. I can't stop buying striped and checkered button-downs.

I love the idea of a jort styled with a cashmere sweater and moto boots this fall.

$30 for cashmere? Did I read that right?

The NYC fashion set loves a pair of sweat shorts right now. This is my pick in the category.
